What is an equinox Louvered Roof?
Before buying and installing one of our amazing new patio cover systems, it probably makes sense to learn exactly what is an Equinox louvered roof. The louver is the actual component that provides the shading for your outdoor space. What’s great about the louvered pieces is that they are adjustable. This allows your patio cover to fit exactly the way that you want it to. Our louvered roofs are made from extruded aluminum which makes them super strong and extremely difficult to damage.
The next piece you have is the beam. We use beams to solidify the louvers in place. Beams are also what allow movement of the louvers. What’s awesome about Equinox beams is that we build them so that there is a space to run tech wiring. Now you can hook up your favorite big screen, awesome new outdoor stereo system, or vibrant lighting setup without any cords showing. We also offer different post options to help you style your patio the way you want. Just ask our sales rep for more info!

Frequently Asked Questions
What material are they made out of?
The Equinox louvered roof system is made of heavy gauge extruded aluminum with a super polyester TGIC powder coating paint finish. The aluminum components are durable and hold up well in the Arizona weather.
To power the opening and closing of the Equinox Louvered Roof, a solar panel powered battery and motor can be used or the motor can be hardwired to the home’s existing electric service. A remote control is generally used to operate the motor.
How do they work?
Equinox® Louvered Roofs contain louver blades that rotate within a fixed frame. Driven by a solar powered motor, the louvers rotate in unison to allow the exact amount of light, shade and ventilation desired. When closed, the interlocking louver blades create a waterproof seal. The louvers are slightly pitched to direct water into an integrated gutter and downspout system that channels rainwater away from the covered area. Residential roofs are typically controlled by a rechargeable solar powered battery and a remote control that require no additional wiring or power from the home. Depending on the roof size, commercial roofs are controlled by one or more toggle switches located near the patio area. The motor is powered by a transformer connected to an ordinary 110v outlet.
How much do they weigh?
Most components of the system are fairly heavy as they are made of thick extruded aluminum. Royal Covers has samples of the Equinox louvered roof components so you can see the strength and weight of major components.
Can they be installed as a patio extension?
Yes, an Equinox roof system can be used to extend your home’s existing covered patio area. Equinox systems can be attached to the home or built as a freestanding detached structures.
Can they cover longer spaces?
Yes the extruded components of the Equinox roof system are very strong and can span longer spaces when necessary. The size of the system as a whole and length of the louvers determine the weight on each beam and thus how far the components can span.
Royal Covers can design a system and adjust the components to fit most projects.
Are there different shapes and colors available?
Yes there are 5 primary colors of the Equinox framework: Black, White, Sandstone, Clay, and Bronze. Equinox systems can be built in many shapes but the best use of the material is typically in a square or rectangle shape so the motors can operate well and material waste is minimized.
Are they maintenance free?
The extruded aluminum is virtually maintenance free. As with any motorized device, the electronics and motors may need service over time but are designed to last through the Arizona heat. Maintenance typically includes clearing the system of any foreign objects that are causing the moving components to bind and potentially replacing the motor if necessary.
How much do they cost?
The Equinox Louvered Roof system is a premium product that is designed to create a “wow” factor for anyone who experiences it. The cost is typically several times the price of a standard Alumawood patio cover.
Do they support attached or installed items such as ceiling fans?
Yes, the extruded components of an Equinox Louvered Roof system are strong enough to support attached items such as ceiling fans and lights.
Can they be repainted?
Although technically paint could be applied over the Equinox components, it is highly recommended that you do not repaint an Equinox Louvered Roof system.
